The name Microscopic Cog Films grew from several tenuous and yet ironic coincidental threads running through Rob Perrett’s life and family history. As a child, he played with a box of tiny watch parts and cogs belonging to his father, who repaired watches and clocks as a hobby. Some of those parts may come from fob watches owned by my grandfather, Joe . Years later, while researching Joe and family members and their petty crime, a connection Birmingham pre 1920’s. Coincidently The Peaky Blinders theme used Nick Cave’s Red Right Hand included the verse: “You’re one microscopic cog in his catastrophic plan designed and directed by his red right hand.” which describes Joe who was reported as a frightening and formidable man. The name also reflects the way I work precise, focused and determined to make every element run like clockwork.
This year, Rob Graduated with an MA in Film and Television and edited an episode of Azra Hussein’s travel documentary series, Discovering the Forgotten Half. He has also developed One in the Chamber to the pre-production stage, ready for its crowdfunding campaign, while continuing to research and write several other film projects currently in development.
With six ambitious projects, Microscopic Cog, Hollowed Out, One in the Chamber, Watkins Corner, Graphite, and The Dog Soldier Rob Perrett’s Master Plan is set. Bringing every single one of these works to life will undoubtedly take dedication and a lot of creative energy. Knowing that after completing the 6 projects Rob intends to rest, step back, and retire.
