MICROSCOPIC COG – FILM PROPOSAL

A high stakes poker game serves as the battleground for one man’s final gamble. As Joe, a seasoned moneylender, manipulates the game to rid himself of a burden rather than chase a win, his past unfolds in a series of sharp, cinematic monologues. Blending grit, style, and psychological depth, Microscopic Cog is a character driven thriller in the vein of Peaky Blinders and The Gentlemen.

Set in the shadowy corners of a 1920s city, Microscopic Cog follows Joe as he plays the most calculated hand of his life. He isn’t here to win—he’s here to lose. Each bet is a move in a grander game, one where he aims to offload his failing shop onto a rival, leaving them trapped in the consequences. As the poker match unfolds, Joe’s mind drifts through memories—his time in the trenches of WWI, a murder that sent him on the run, his days as a miner, and the cutthroat world of money lending. Through sharp voiceover narration and immersive flashbacks, Microscopic Cog explores fate, choice, and the weight of a man’s past.

 Vision & Style

Inspired by the kinetic energy of Guy Ritchie’s crime dramas and the character driven storytelling of Peaky Blinders, the film employs stylish, fluid cinematography and fourth wall breaking narration. The poker table becomes a psychological battlefield, with tension rising through precise blocking, evocative lighting, and a score that pulses with anticipation.
